So after spending some time with friends in SL, I was using the map tool to check if some other friends were home before I tp’d in on them. I use a graphics tablet to control mouse movements in SL, something which the map interface does not like, so I had to zoom out.
What I discovered was a large stretch of ocean between the main continent and the north continent of the SL Grid. So I teleported over, and had to fly the rest of the way (an experience soon to be gone, hopfully). What I found was a little odd. An oil rig in Second Life.
A little investigation lead me to a pipe terminating 3 sims away !! That’s a fair distance in SL. I tried to enter it and had to make a mini-me so I would fit (I’m quite a tall feller). I could go much further than a couple of bends, due to some barriers in the way.
Returning back to the Oil Rig, I manage to obtain the following information:
.
Yes it appears that the prims in Second Life are produced in much the same way oil is- an entirely non-eco friendly process.
I took a lot of photos. Just short of 70 in fact. These photos, and others will be uploaded to my Flickr account once I have upgraded it to premium. If I upload all the photos onto my Flickr account, everything else will get chucked off/hidden.
Photos, along with conversations with Bub and Hamlet Linden will be posted eventually, if not shortly.
