Blogger Migration pt6.1 | October 6, 2005

WTF is going on with WordPress.com.

So I had some free time between lectures at Uni today, so I thought I’d spend some time migrating the posts over from here to there. Aside from the issues I’ve been having with server time outs, that are- in fact- still present. My inability to access the WordPress.com server is the reason why I haven’t gotten anywhere near migrating and why I’ve missed two weekly news roundups. I’m getting thoroughly pissed off at this delay which is outside of my control- so much so that I’m actually regretting migrating in the first place.

Regrets.

Yes, I know WordPress is by far a superior blogging platform to BlogSpot, but BlogSpot rarely, if ever made it impossible for me to post. WordPress.com on the other hand has decided to think that it needs reinstalling. Every single blog hosted on , and the main site appears to have decided it needs reinstalling. While I was writing that sentence the problem appears to have gone. The timeouts are still there though, so I can’t update my wishlist to show that I’ve actually bought, received and installed the 512MB module on my system, and that I’ve bought but still waiting to receive most of what’s left. The timeout problems seem to have disapeared, although I don’t have the time to fool around migrating tonight.

  1. Sorry about that, the issues should be over now. A datacenter move went bad.

  2. I had some intermittent problems earlier- had to make two attempts at posting part 7.

Nice to see my blog is actually getting some attention !^_^! Any ideas as to if all of the problems have been ironed out ?

Note to self: stop beeping around with the time offset settings.

Note to Matt: blank comment author URL in your comment.

The comment Matt left should be first in the list (my fault). Would you be the same Matt I’m thinking you are or is it just a coincidence ?

  3. My URL was blank in my profile, should be fixed now.

  4. Aha, I see you are the same Matt I was thinking of.

I think I came across your blog by accident with the StumbleUpon extension.

Then I started reading about WordPress, and kept coming across WordPress blogs occasionally.

A while back (exact date would be around the time of the first post in the archive) I needed to get a blog as per Simon Willison‘s suggestion, and I spent some time trying to find a decent free WordPress host, but couldn’t find any that fit my needs. Or maybe there just weren’t any. I forget.

That’s why I ended up on BlogSpot. Easy to use, loads of people using it. Not very good in general though. Eventually through your blog I read about WordPress.com, and signed for the Golden Ticket thing straight away.

That brings us to September 24th, when I got my Golden Ticket.

So basically, what I’m saying is if it wasn’t for you, your blog, your fantastic software (and an honourable mention for StumbleUpon), I would still be stuck on the Blogger platform.

    Thank You :-)
